Official Opening of the Indoor Archery Facility

The Grange Company of Target Archers Inc. started in 1947 and is the oldest archery club in Queensland.  The club after a few years from inception relocated to Emerson Park at the Grange where it operated from for over 60 years.  In this time the club was the genesis of many other archery clubs in south Queensland.

Due to the growth of the club membership numbers, the uncertain future at Emerson Park and due to the need for improved facilities for the members, the club decided to relocate to the Moreton Bay Region, and early in 2009 the club re-established at Samford Parklands.

The building of the Indoor Archery Facility at Samford Parklands has been funded by the club, the Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Department Communities Sport & Recreation through the Queensland Governments Minor Facilities Development Program, and the members of the club are very appreciative of this local and State Government support and how they have been warmly welcomed into the community.

The Official Opening of the Indoor Archery Facility was held on 21st November with Hon Geoff Wilson, State Member for Ferny Grove, Minister for Education & Training officially opening the facility, and with Councillor Bob Millar MBRC unveiled the plaque.

The club now operates its target archery field and the indoor archery facility at Samford Parklands.

In May 2010 the club will be a joint host club for the 2010 National Archery Championships, hosting the clout archery and field archery components.

The club has as its core value to provide for the participation of members to enjoy the sport in an affordable way, and many of the clubs policies are geared to mainstream participation as much as competition and elite archers. The club invites memberships from a wide range of ages and abilities and has members from nine years to eighty plus.  Target archery is a sport that almost anyone can participate in, including many disabled.  It is a life sport, as you don’t have to have any particular physical attribute to become good at the sport, and many mums and dads enjoy the sport with their children in a friendly non-competitive environment. Target archery can be enjoyed at a social level, as a self improvement discipline or for the competitively minded at club, state, national, international and Olympic level. The Grange Company of Target Archers Inc is proudly affiliated with Archery Australia through the South Queensland Archery Society Inc and hopes to have club members selected in the Commonwealth Games team in 2010 and subsequently the Olympics.
